Who must register for UIF?
All households in South Africa with one or more employees working 24 hours per month or more must register for UIF.
UIF Contributions
The employee contributes 1% and the employer contributes 1% of the employee's salary per month. This must be submitted and paid by the 7th of each month to avoid penalties and interest.
PENALTIES
To avoid penalties you need to ensure that you register yourself and your employees as soon as they commence employment .
A 10% penalty fee will be charged on the UIF amount owed and there is also interest charged
Any person convicted of an offence in terms of the UIF Act is liable to a fine or imprisonment, or to both a fine and imprisonment.
